Jon Kabat-Zinn is no dummy. Born in New York in 1944, Kabat-Zinn earned his Ph.D. in molecular biology from MIT in 1971, at 27 years old.
He was first exposed to the practice of meditation as a student at MIT and has since gone on to be credited with introducing the mindfulness philosophy to the mainstream population.
In 1979 Kabat-Zinn founded the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. His eight-week course has since been rebranded to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). You can find the course availability online.
With his down-to-earth approach, Jon presents the principles and benefits of mindfulness in a way anyone can comprehend and adopt.
Dr. Kabat-Zinn has trained many groups of people, including judges, CEOs, lawyers, clergy, and Olympic athletes throughout his career.
I first read his book, “Mindfulness for Beginners”, which comes with a CD packed full of mediation practices. He presents the concepts, benefits, and best practices to start your journey towards a more present existence.
I have curated 10 of my favorite quotes from Jon Kabat-Zinn that helped formed my own personal mindfulness path.
