Most supermarkets and butcher shops carry bone-in smoked hams. If they don’t have ham steaks already cut, just ask the butcher to slice one for you.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup maple syrup
1 bone-in smoked ham steak, about 2 pounds and 1/2-inch thick
INSTRUCTIONS
In a small sauce pan over medium heat, bring syrup to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low. Cook until syrup is reduced to 1/2 cup, 6 to 8 minutes. Remove from heat.
Set a stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat. When pan is hot, cook ham until grill marks appear underneath, 2 to 3 minutes.
Turn ham over and generously brush top with reduced maple syrup. Cook until grill marks appear underneath and ham is heated through, 2 to 3 minutes more.
Turn ham over and brush with syrup.
Transfer to a cutting board. Cut ham into 4 pieces.
Brush with syrup again before serving.
