There’s nothing better on a hot summer night than a Hot Fudge Sundae and it only gets better with our homemade hot fudge sauce recipe. This is super simple and you likely have all the ingredients in your pantry already.
INGREDIENTS for Hot Fudge Sundae
Ice cream flavor of your choice – we personally love chocolate mint chip, but even vanilla is great
Hot fudge sauce (recipe below)
Chopped nuts, optional
Whipped cream
Maraschino cherry to garnish
ADDITIONAL TOPPING OPTIONS:
Chunks of brownies
Fresh fruit
Colored sprinkles
NOTE: It is best to make the Hot Fudge Sauce ahead of time so it has a chance to thicken.
INGREDIENTS for Hot Fudge Sauce
2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups heavy cream
2 cups dark cocoa powder
2 sticks (1 cup) butter, salted preferred
INSTRUCTIONS
Place the 4 ingredients into a heavy saucepan over medium heat on the stovetop.
Cook, stirring constantly, until the butter is melted and all ingredients are well combined. This only takes a few minutes.
Then pour the hot fudge into a container (a mason jar works great). Place into refrigerator and allow to chill. The sauce will thicken as it cools down.
Once you’re ready to assemble your sundaes, you can take the Hot Fudge sauce out of the fridge and gently heat the amount you plan to use. You can heat in the microwave or over a double-boiler. Just be cautious not to burn it.
